Summary: Past and present collide as Bucky Barnes confronts the truth about Steve Rogers and the destructive path that led to becoming the Winter Soldier. “Return of the Masters” continues!
The original Captain America’s machinations and power grab have been a prominent part of the “Captain America: Steve Rogers” series by writer Nick Spencer, but they’ve also spilled into the latest volume of “Uncanny Avengers.” This spring, Rogers clandestine plotting for Hydra will morph into a full-scale assault on global freedom, as Marvel Comics kicks off its latest summer event, “Secret Empire.” In June’s “Uncanny Avengers” #24, the series’ new creative team of writer Jim Zub and artist Kim Jacinto will kick off a new tie-in arc to the event that finds the Unity Squad firmly in the crosshairs of Rogers and his Hydra followers. CBR spoke to Zub to learn more about his plans for the series.

Summary: Sometimes you have to do the right thing with the team you’ve got, not the team you want…
Marvel Comics’ latest “Thunderbolts” team was formed when the Winter Soldier (AKA Bucky Barnes) and several former team members banded together to protect the living Cosmic Cube fragment, Kobik, from S.H.I.E.L.D. and any other forces looking to exploit her abilities. But by doing so Bucky unwittingly put them all in the crosshairs of his former partner, Steve Rogers.

Kobik used to be under the thrall of Hydra and its villainous master, the Red Skull, who utilized her reality-altering abilities to change history. When she was done, the original Captain America had been a secret agent of Hydra for pretty much his entire life. Kobik broke free son after tweaking the timeline, and the Skull’s forces have been trying to recover her ever since.

Now, Rogers has discovered that the childlike Kobik is in the custody of Bucky and his team. This February, he’ll put his secret weapon against the group into play; a weapon that knows Bucky’s comrades better than almost anyone: Thunderbolts founder, Baron Helmut Zemo. It all happens in “Thunderbolts” #10, by writer Jim Zub and artist Jon Malin, which celebrates the team’s 20th Anniversary and kicks off a new arc titled “Return of the Masters

The "All-New All-Different Marvel" title Thunderbolts is celebrating its past and welcoming back its creators for its 20th anniversary next year.

Current Thunderbolts creators Jim Zub and Jon Malin will be joined by the team's original creators Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley for Thunderbolts #10 in February. That issue begins the new "Return of the Masters" story-arc, which the current writer promises the team will revisit their own history as the Masters of Evil after a mysterious old villain makes their re-appearance.

Could it be Baron Zemo? Zub ain't talking.

But Zub did talk to Newsarama about Thunderbolts #10, just after it was announced at New York Comic Con.
