Geoff Johns: I can officially say that Ivan Reis, @Joe_Prado and I have started work on #Riseofthe7Seas! The team is back...

Yesterday, DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns confirmed that he, Ivan Reis and Joe Prado have started work on "Rise of the Seven Seas." The storyline was originally teased in the conclusion to Johns' run on "Aquaman."

Newsarama reports that "Johns alluded to a "Rise of the Seven Seas" storyline in his last issue of Aquaman, November 2014's #25. In the final pages of that issue, Nerus, King of Xebel confronts Orm and Erin to reveal that he knows the location of the "seven seas." At the time, Aquaman was the King of the first sea and Nerus King of the second sea, Xebel. The issue ends with Nerus asking Orm to join him in helping the kings of these seven seas to take over Earth.

In this week's announcement, Johns didn't give any detail as to when or where this "Rise of the Seven Seas" storyline would appear. Somewhat concidentally however, current Aquaman writer Cullen Bunn recently announced that he's leaving the title in January 2016."

Writer Cullen Bunn who began his tenure on Aquaman series with issue #41 will be leaving the series. Aquaman #48, which comes out in January 2016 will be last issue. During his Reddit AMA, he responded why he is quitting this series

There are a number of reasons I left Aquaman. I actually quit the book before my first issue even came out. The reaction from fans was brutal and disheartening even before they read my first issue. My editor (who is great) asked me to stick with it, so I did. The fan reaction didn't improve. This was such a different take on the character, a lot of diehard Aquaman fans couldn't accept it. I was accused of not taking about the book, but every time I did, I got hate tweets and hate mail. I don't need that, and it kind of made me loathe the character. In the end, I think this wasn't the right story to tell with Aquaman, so I felt it was time for me to move on. Someone else can come on and be a hero.

There's a bunch of other stuff, too, but it's best we don;t dwell on it.
