According to Alex Alonso, Marvel accomplished their goals with CIVIL WAR II

"We accomplished what we wanted with the story. Of course, we wish we could’ve wrapped it up on time, and we’re sorry about that, but we didn’t want to do that at the expense of the overall quality of the final package — and we think Brain and David wrote a beautiful story. In terms of the event’s impact on the Marvel Universe, it’s having the ripple effect that we wanted: the emergence of the Champions as a counterpoint to the Avengers, the repositioning of Tony Stark and Carol Danvers, and the huge Hulk-sized hole created by Hawkeye’s arrow. As the story unfolds across the entire line, we will start to seed clues about the future that will have our hardcore fans salivating. Could “O.G.” Thor be worthy again? How long can Hydra Cap keep his secret? Did Bruce Banner have a contingency plan for his contingency plan? How dead is Logan? Is the Marvel Universe better off with Tony Stark off the board? [Laughs] These are the questions we have been contemplating."

Summary: THE WAR ENDS…

The "All-New All-Different Marvel" title Thunderbolts is celebrating its past and welcoming back its creators for its 20th anniversary next year.

Current Thunderbolts creators Jim Zub and Jon Malin will be joined by the team's original creators Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley for Thunderbolts #10 in February. That issue begins the new "Return of the Masters" story-arc, which the current writer promises the team will revisit their own history as the Masters of Evil after a mysterious old villain makes their re-appearance.

Could it be Baron Zemo? Zub ain't talking.

But Zub did talk to Newsarama about Thunderbolts #10, just after it was announced at New York Comic Con.

* Summary:
On the road to CIVIL WAR II!
• During the last Civil War, Tony Stark and Captain America battled to the bitter end. Now they find themselves on the same side. Or do they?
• It is Steve Rogers and Tony Stark like you have never seen them before.

Marvel has now released the payoff image (via FastCompany) to those teasers, also illustrated by Deodato. It's a group shot featuring two camps on Marvel heroes and antiheroes, proclaiming "Divided We Stand" -- seemingly confirming that current event series "Civil War II" ends with a still-fractured Marvel landscape. Other than that, the image raises a lot more questions than answers
